The Zener diode
This charger will automatically switch off the supply to the battery as soon as the voltage of the battery reaches the 8-5v point with the aid of the zener diode D3 and transistor Q2.




Material List
  1. 4uf AC capacitor 400v
  2. 1000uf 50v electrolytic capacitor
  3. 1k x 2, R2, R3, R4, R1 = 1meg 1watt, R4100ohms.
  4. D1 = 1N5408, D3, D5 = 7.5v zener diode
  5. Q1 = Tip 35
  6. Q2 = 2N2222
  7. D2, D4 indicator light.
